Hawaiian Sales & Support Specialist – AAFES Exchange(Oahu)

GUARDIAN SCUBA & WATERSPORTS

Job Identifier: SSSHI01

Position Overview:

GUARDIAN SCUBA & WATERSPORTS, an American manufacturer of adult and youth snorkeling and swim products sold nationally at thousands of retail locations across the mainland USA, is seeking a Hawaiian Sales & Support Specialist. This position will primarily focus on supporting and growing the AAFES EXCHANGE business on Oahu, requiring regular weekly in-person visits to AAFES locations and Guardian's 3PL warehouse in Honolulu. The specialist will also have a secondary responsibility of managing non-military, non-AAFES retail accounts across the Hawaiian Islands, which can be largely supported remotely.

Hours and Schedule:

It is expected that AAFES-related responsibilities will require 20-30 hours per week, allowing flexibility to consider both part-time (less than 30 hours) or full-time (up to 40 hours per week) applicants. If tasks at AAFES locations and the 3PL warehouse are effectively managed, we offer flexibility in working hours to accommodate a variety of schedules.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Sales Management (Primary Focus - AAFES EXCHANGE on Oahu):

Serve as the main point of contact for AAFES EXCHANGE locations on Oahu, managing all sales and operational activities for GUARDIAN SCUBA & WATERSPORTS products.

Drive sales growth by ensuring product availability, identifying new opportunities, and overseeing promotional efforts.

Provide regular sales reports and performance analysis to the management team.

  • Customer Relationship Management (Primary Focus - AAFES EXCHANGE on Oahu):

Develop strong relationships with AAFES EXCHANGE leadership and staff, regularly visiting locations in person.

Provide timely and effective customer service to ensure satisfaction and resolve any issues.

Act as a liaison between AAFES EXCHANGE and internal teams to ensure smooth operations.

  • Operational Support (Primary Focus - AAFES EXCHANGE on Oahu):

Oversee product stocking, pricing, and merchandising at AAFES EXCHANGE locations, requiring frequent in-person visits.

Visit Guardian's 3PL warehouse 1-3 times per week to monitor inventory and ensure timely product distribution to AAFES locations.

Assist in planning and executing promotional events and seasonal campaigns.

  • Product Knowledge and Training (Primary Focus - AAFES EXCHANGE on Oahu):

Gain and maintain expertise in GUARDIAN SCUBA & WATERSPORTS products.

Train AAFES EXCHANGE staff on product features to enhance their ability to promote and sell products.

  • Market and Competitor Analysis (Primary Focus - AAFES EXCHANGE on Oahu):

Stay updated on market trends and competitor activities within the AAFES EXCHANGE system.

Provide insights and recommendations for product development and market strategies.

Secondary Responsibilities (Non-AAFES Retailers Across Hawaiian Islands):
  • Sales and Support for Non-AAFES Retailers (Secondary Priority):

Manage relationships and provide sales support to non-military, non-AAFES retailers across the Hawaiian Islands, primarily through remote communication (calls, emails, digital meetings).

Periodic inter-island travel may be helpful for in-person meetings but is not mandatory for this role.

Operational Flexibility:

The role offers a flexible work schedule, if tasks at AAFES EXCHANGE locations and Guardian’s 3PL warehouse are effectively managed.

Non-AAFES retailer support is less urgent and can be handled remotely, with occasional in-person meetings scheduled on a case-by-case basis.

Compensation:

Compensation is $18.00 - $25.00 per hour depending on experience.

This position offers flexibility and does not require exclusive employment, allowing the applicant to work with other companies. As such, it is structured as an Independent Contractor role and does not include employee benefits. However, if the position evolves to require greater commitment or responsibility, there is potential for it to transition to an employee position with benefits, based on future needs.

Qualifications:

The highest preference is given to spouses of military personnel stationed on Oahu.

Ability and willingness to travel locally on Oahu 2-4 times per week for in-person visits to AAFES locations and Guardian’s 3PL warehouse.

Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to manage priorities effectively.

Familiarity with AAFES EXCHANGE operations is preferred. DOD clearance (or ability to obtain clearance) for visiting AAFES locations on military bases is mandatory.

Proven experience in sales, customer service, or account management, preferably in retail or sporting goods industries.

Strong knowledge of the Hawaiian market, particularly military and commercial retail channels.

Ability to work independently, manage remote accounts, and occasionally travel inter-island if needed.
